Social Hour: Here’s Yet Another Reason Your Brand Should Be On Snapchat

Posted On October 12th, 2017 | 8:21pm EST

If your brand isn’t already on Snapchat, the time is now. Seriously. Snapchat has a new feature and it’s a game changer — specifically for small businesses.

When a user posts a story with a location filter or geotag, the new feature creates a “Context Card” that will provide additional information such as maps, menus, hours of operation, reviews and ratings of an event or place that a user’s friend is at. To make this possible, Snapchat partnered with companies like Foursquare, TripAdvisor, OpenTable, Lyft and Uber. For now, Snapchat’s swipe-up-for-more-cards are simple informational tools, but it’s information that can help your brand in the long run.

Given these partnerships, there’s potential for advertising opportunities. Not only could the new feature help Snapchat better target certain audiences but it’s a content opportunity for you too. Every time a Snapchat user tags your location, viewers can learn everything they need to know about you.

And about that.. it’s probably a good idea to have an account that they can follow at that time, too. Once you are set up, make it a habit to use the location tag daily on your brand’s account. In many ways, these context cards function like an invitation for potential customers. Encourage your employees to share the location tag on their personal accounts. Tapping into their personal networks is an easy and simple way to start. And lastly, identify your real audience to learn more about what it is they want from your brand’s digital account. What are their hobbies? What kind of content do they like to share on their own account? Learning more about them will help you learn what next steps are for your Snapchat future, and beyond.
