Why Social Video is Your Friend

With live Facebook video, Reddit AMAs, Instagram and Snapchat’s 24-hour stories, there’s a lot to think about when considering ephemeral video content for your brand. Does it work? Absolutely. Delivering real-time video straight to your customers can help build your relationship, promote and sell your product and give you insight into who is engaging with you on the web.

New to video content? Here are a few opportunities that could help you get your feet wet.

Flash Sales
If you’re looking to reward your loyal audience of IG or Snapchat followers with big deals, you can announce a secret sale via one of the channels. Ask followers to Snap you back to receive the discount. Even easier, you can nudge your customers to screen shot your sale promo (which should include a code for e-shoppers) to present during check out. A fun trick: that same code can provide you with data on which customers are coming to you via your social channels, which can help when you’re ideating different deals and future promos.

New Product Launches
Take a tip from Supreme — the NYC-based streetwear brand that drops product once a week online (Thursdays mornings, as any die-hard shopper knows). The product available during these “drop days” is never announced ahead of time, and that exclusivity and secrecy really appeals to customers. As in, the site nearly crashes every week. While it could take awhile to get to that goal, consider launching new, exclusive product through the web, and premiering with a “first-look through” social video.

Meet the CEO
Looking to put a face to your brand? A face-to-face with your company CEO or executives could be key. Customers like knowing who they’re interacting with, who they’re buying from, who they are trusting. Why not host a Reddit AMA or Facebook Live with one of your company heads, so that they can show off their glowing personality and gain real-time feedback and engagement with their customers? All involved could learn a thing or two.

There’s a lot that social video can do for you. Once you’ve tested the waters, it’s a good idea to update to your channels regularly (we suggest starting with Instagram stories). That way, you’re always popping up in your customers feeds — and in their minds.
