#contenthacks: The First Thing Your Customer Thinks About Every Morning

Posted On July 19th, 2017 | 10:00am EST

No one can read minds, but as marketers, it’s our job to try. We need to know what our customer needs, wants, and thinks about day in and day out.

What better way to do that than by starting with what they think about when they wake up—or as soon as their head hits the pillow at night?

According to the Content Marketing Institute, getting to the bottom of customer mindset starts with knowing the answer to the two questions above, and knowing the “why” behind them.

This type of AM/PM thinking taps into the subconscious way we make major decisions, which leads us to this week’s #contenthack: considering your customer’s most basic mindset. There are countless surveys and market research studies that hone in on specific reasons consumers are prone to make different decisions, but really, what can you glean from all of that of data if you don’t know the source?

This week, we challenge you to think about these three macro-level questions before creating a new piece of content for your target audience—the morning, the night, and most importantly, the why. What major life hopes, dreams or worries are steering your customer’s buying behavior—and how can you step in to help guide them in the right direction?

Sleep on it, and get back to us in the morning.
